Programs

Since 1996, Sustainable Alachua County has been a primary force in promoting sustainability for community residents, local government and businesses. In the coming years, sustainable living will become even more critical to North Florida’s economic, social, and environmental health. SAC will continue to facilitate programs, forums, and conversations that heighten awareness of sustainable living choices for our community.

Discussion Circle

Discussion Circles: Deepen your understanding and forge new circles of support for creating a more sustainable community. Discussion circles are scheduled continually whenever there is a person or group that wants to help us set one up. It’s easy, fun and convenient to coordinate a group. Contact SAC for information on setting up a group. Seventeen discussion courses have been held since starting the program in the spring of 2005. A Steering Committee was recently created to promote this program to wider audiences. Further information about this program can be found at http://www.nwei.org.

Gainesville Cohousing: Join this working group to explore the possibilities for creating affordable energy-efficient homes and sustainable community neighborhood.

Local Business Alliance: The Business Alliance of Greater Gainesville (BAGG) is a coalition of local business and community members committed to supporting our local economy, sustaining the long-term health of the community and preserving its unique character so Gainesville does not become Anytown, USA.

Local Issues Forums: Opportunities to learn more about issues that affect our community, listen to all opinions, question the experts and discuss the impacts.

Making the Truth Convenient: Making the Truth Convenient is the name of SAC’s new initiative to address climate change and energy conservation. Watch for new details and activities.
