Sustainable Alachua County operates solely on volunteer efforts and voluntary contributions and your help, large and small, is needed and appreciated. Leadership Opportunities
Board of Directors: Seeking committed, farsighted individuals to direct SAC’s activities to better serve the community
Steering Committees:’ Turn your skills and special interests into activities that guide SAC in creating a more sustainable community. Committees include Communications, Education, and Sustainable Living.
Education and Social Opportunities
Organize fun community service activities: Plan social networking parties (like Holiday reception at Goerings,) group participation in river cleanups and other “sustainable play” events.
Sponsor a Discussion Circle: Meet with a group for 8-9 weeks to discuss topics related to sustainability. Learn more about how you can take personal and inspire collective responsibility for the earth and society.
Help Organize a Community Forum, World Cafe or other special event: Contribute to planning and attend a community forum on issues like water, energy, health, agriculture, civic involvement, or the local economy.
Provide assistance in tabling at community events: A fun and easy way to promote sustainability.
Presentation Support: Develop and/or deliver a presentation on sustainability for use in schools and civic organizations.
Contribute to creating a Gainesville Green Guide or Green Map: We have the outline and the structure, now we need people to help pull it together.
Administration & Tech Support Opportunities
Publicity & Graphic Design: Volunteer to design flyers and announcements for a range of SAC events and courses or help get word of SAC activities and events into local newspapers, calendars and at community events.
Web Resources Team: SAC is updating our web site to be more interactive and to serve as a portal to sustainability resources in our community. Bring your interest in sustainability and/or your skills in web design in helping to build an important resource site.
Help Maintain Administrative Stuff: These tasks help make everything else we do possible: mailing list, database, bookkeeping, handle phone and email inquiries, publish yearly newletter and membership appeal, etc.
